Summary: Kannaway’s parent company, Medical Marijuana Inc has been around for quite some time and reports that they were the first to get involved with CBD Oil, both Marijuana and Hemp.
At the time there were restrictions on both Marijuana and Hemp but it wasn’t until the 2018 farm bill was passed.
That this led the way for the expansion of Hemp-derived CBD oil products.

What is Kannaway CBD Oil And Who Are The Founders?
Kannaway is an MLM or multi-level marketing company, founded by Dr Stuart Titus in 2014 and based in San Diego, California.
They are a provider of Hemp CBD oil products to the consumer worldwide and one of the first companies to do business with cannabis.
They make claims on their site as the first company to publicly trade cannabis in the US way back in 2009, but seeing that Kannaway was founded in 2014 then that can’t be true.
What is true is that the company to claim this is, in fact, Medical Marijuana Inc, the parent company of Kannaway? Not that this should matter!
Dr Stuart Titus comes with a wealth of experience in the Marijuana and Hemp industry.
What I also find interesting is that when Stuart took over the realms of Medical Marijuana Inc from Michael Llamas, he was at the time indicted for a Ponzi Scheme.
Even links to Stratton Oakmont, which was the basis for the film “Wolf of Wall Street”.
Anyway, times change but just amazing what a little research can do and change your whole perspective on something.
So, want to know more about Kannaway, then check out this presentation, but keep an open mind and don’t be taken in by certain claims, remember you should check out these claims yourself afterwards.
Kannaway has a saying – “share the life-changing benefits of hemp-based cannabidiol (CBD) with every individual and family and empower you to do the same for your community”. I myself have reservations!
I like the fact that Kannaway invests some of its time in charity work which is always a great thing.
The charity is Echo Connection which provides education-collaboration-hope to families with special needs, who rely heavily on cannabinoid products to get by on a day-to-day basis.
It has to be said that more and more people are turning to CBD Oil for pain relief and this is evident by the number of companies that are active in this thriving market, especially MLMs.
Obviously, there is money to be made here, but I wouldn’t jump in just yet until you weigh up the pros and cons.
CBD and THC Explained And The Benefits of CBD?
What is CBD and THC?
CBD or Cannabidiol and THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol both come from the Marijuana and Hemp plants.
They share the same molecular structure, although the atoms are slightly arranged differently.
Marijuana still carries a lot of stigma across many governments and is still banned in many countries and is always under scrutiny, more so than Hemp, but times are changing.
The reason for this is 2-fold.
The THC which is what gives you the high, coming from the Marijuana plant can be as high or even higher than 20% and the law states that the maximum dosage cannot exceed 0.3%.
But, The Hemp plant has far less THC, in fact only trace elements, but with a higher dosage of CBD, which is why manufacturers and suppliers choose the industrial hemp route.
This short video presentation pretty much covers what we briefly discussed above, but in more detail.
The benefits of CBD Oil.
- Neuroprotective Properties
Through research, they found that CBD may provide relief for people with neurological disorders, like MS and epilepsy.
Whilst they have made some breakthroughs in this area, more research needs to be done.
It has proven an oral spray containing both THC and CBD to be very effective in reducing the spasms brought on by MS.
- Ease Pain
The main reason people approach CBD Oil helps to relieve pain, which current medication doesn’t appear to be doing or the effects have worn off.
- Anxiety and Depression
Anxiety and depression are always in the headlines and normally treated with drugs, but even those wear off over time because of our immune system, which gets used to them.
These drugs have been known to cause several side effects which can have an adverse effects on the sufferer.
CBD is known to have a calming effect and with little or no side effects.
- Cancer-Related Symptoms
CBD could help in the side effects of chemo, and radiation among other cancer treatments.
Through a study, they found that a THC and CBD combination helped in pain relief other than THC or CBD used entirely on their own.
- Acne
The anti-inflammatory properties of CBD are known to reduce swelling in secretion glands.
- Heart
It was found through scientific studies that CBD had the ability to decrease blood pressure.
Is Kannaway CBD Oil a Pyramid Scheme?
Kannaway is definitely not a pyramid scheme as you can make money without having to recruit people.
They are one of the first companies to get involved with CBD so it wouldn’t be wise to rock the boat.
Pyramid structures in business have always been around forever, but in an MLM, it’s the compensation plan that dictates one way or the other.
There are elements of a pyramid scheme in disguise though.
Just for clarity on what a Pyramid Scheme is…
This is when in this case, the Kannaway CBD Oil distributor gets paid for recruiting others without a product or service, like a Ponzi scheme.
What can often happen is that the company does have a product or service but they don’t have any intrinsic value.
Meaning that they are of no use to anybody, they are there just to hide behind to disguise the real purpose of what is going on.
I’m happy to say that this rarely happens nowadays!
This is just like a Ponzi scheme but with a product, now if the products were bad then they might come under a pyramid scheme in disguise.

Just Getting Used to CBD And Now CBDA is All The Rage?
CBDA, or Cannabidiolic acid, is a precursor to CBD.
CBD is present but in small amounts.
A heating process has to take place for CBD to exist in larger quantities whilst the CBDA disappears.
In other words, there would be not enough CBD without CBDA.
Whilst CBD is getting all the credit, its parent (so to speak) CBDA doesn’t, but times are now changing with some products including both CBD and CBDA.
Through research CBDA in its raw form is known to be many times stronger than CBD. Tweek the manufacturing process to accommodate CBDA and we are onto something potentially very big.
A company at the very forefront of the CBD Oil industry is the Swiss company Cibdol. See what they have to say about CBDA here.

You can watch this short video that goes into more detail about the difference between CBD and CBDA, and the benefits of CBDA.

Let’s take a look at the Bibong Formula, which Kannaway use in their product line?
Bibong formulas are a way to blend herbs together which have been handed down through centuries and represent the pinnacle in the herbal formulation.
They can help to revitalize the cells in our bodies by increasing the “chi” and removing any blockages.
Chi if you didn’t know in Chinese stands for “Universal life force energy”, which for many means “all that there is”.
In Japan they represent it as “ki” and the energy healing modality is “Reiki”. The art of energy healing, of which I am a Reiki Master.
Kannaway state that they use this formula throughout the product range, which according to them makes their products unique.
Remember to always have an open mind when evaluating such claims as what you will normally find is that they will all claim their products are the best and better than they actually are.
However, Kannaway does provide all the certificates to back up their claims along with 3rd party independent testing.

How to Make Money as a Kannaway CBD Oil Brand Ambassador?
There are two main ways to make money as a Kannaway distributor.
-
- Purchase the products and sell them for profit
- Recruit and build a team and earn commissions from their sales
There are additional ways to make money which are explained in the compensation plan.
Kannaway CBD Oil Compensation Plan
These are pretty much what make or break an MLM business and you really have to get your head around them sometimes.
They should be simple and straightforward, but they often aren’t.
If you’d like a little light-reading, then be my guest and check out this hard copy, otherwise sit back and listen to someone telling you it is a very simple compensation plan. I’ll leave that up to you to decide!
Are Kannaway Distributors Making Money
Always a difficult question to answer which makes it even more difficult when there isn’t an income disclosure statement.
There is probably a very good reason for this as they all paint a similar picture and are really quite depressing to read.
Especially if you are new to all this and looking for a work-from-home opportunity.
We know through reviewing hundreds of these MLMs that over 99% do not earn enough.
To call it a business and certainly not enough to replace a 9-5 job which is what people are hoping to do.
You might like to take a look at what the Federal Trade Commission has to say.
What About The Hidden Costs?
One thing that isn’t talked about much is the costs that are involved on a monthly basis besides your subscription fee which is in this case $54.98.
To stay active you have to meet certain sales quotas and if you have a team who is selling then this will help your cause.
To start with there is a 28PV which isn’t a great deal of money but if you can’t or are struggling to sell.
Then this could end up costing you between $300 and $400 a year.
What about marketing costs as well which won’t have been mentioned?
Yes, you can go down the FREE route exchanging pleasantries with people on Facebook but take it from me this will not work and get you frustrated.
So you have PPC or “Pay Per Click” and there are various ways to do this, and the best way is through Google or Facebook ads.
A decent budget would be $100 -$200 a month with no guarantees that you will get any interest because of competition.
So before actually making any money through sales, this is going to cost…
$54.98 + $350 + $1800 = Between $2,000 and $2,500 / year
What Others Say About Kannaway CBD Oil
$2500 I would say is expensive, but if you want to speed up the process then you have to invest.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any reviews in the normal manner which I find very strange. If the products are so good then why aren’t they all over sites like Trustpilot, etc?
Any review you find on the Kannaway website is going to be positive and biased therefore not a place to really go to.
Is Kannaway a Scam?
Is Kannaway a Scam? Absolutely not!
They are a subsidiary of Medical Marijuana Inc got in right at the start of the CBD oil industry and was founded for that one purpose.
You are always going to find people who have tried to make a go of building a business through Kannaway.
Failing and the first thing that normally comes out of their mouths is that Kannaway is a scam or a pyramid scheme.
I just wish people would research these so-called opportunities thoroughly because at the end of the day it’s a business in the eyes of Kannaway.
That is going to take a lot of hard work and determination and no more so than any other type of business.
What we Like About Kannaway CBD Oil
Kannaway really appears to be on the ball when it comes to their product and the handling of it from the initial concept to the finished article.
- Organically Grown:
They claim that all their products are organically grown in Europe, and therefore exempt from herbicides and pesticides.
- Triple Lab Tested:
They are one of the first CBD Oil businesses to follow strict guidelines that comply with GMP (Good manufacturing practices)
- Skincare Products:
Exempt from any animal testing, lab certified and transparent
- There’s No GMO (Genetically Modified Organism):
- Product Certificates:
Certificates are available for anyone to check out through their website.
- US Hemp authority stamp seal of approval:
What we Don’t Like About Kannaway CBD Oil
Here are some of the pitfalls and pretty much what people are looking for.
- Products Are Expensive:
You will find all products coming from an MLM business with a high price tag and with a little research on your behalf, you can find a similar product much cheaper. Whether this is as good or not is another issue!
- If The Products Are That Great Then Where Are The Great Reviews:
You would think that you would find great reviews all over the internet, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. Yes, you will find reviews on their website, but that isn’t a place to go to find unbiased reviews.
- BBB (Better Business Bureau):
Not accredited
- No Income Disclosure:
It’s not uncommon to not find an income disclosure statement and when this happens.
It sort of gets you to think that maybe they are trying to hide something.
- A Fact With All MLMs:
Only the top 1% actually make any real money and that’s not just with Kannaway, that’s across the board.
- Many Leave Far Too Early:
You find a lot of newbies coming into an MLM business looking for easy money.
You might earn some money in the early days if you have a sponsor who is prepared to help and guide you, and that’s if you are lucky.
Normally what you will find is that above 50% of members joining will have left before their 12 months is up. That’s not me talking BS, it’s a fact!
- Popularity Has Dropped:
If you take a look at the image below you can see that popularity peaked in the early days but dropped considerably until around the pandemic lockdown.
Since then it seems to have done a nosedive.
Is Kannaway CBD Oil a Worthy Business to Get Involved With?
On this basis, Kannaway looks like a great business to get involved with and if you have experience with MLMs then there’s no reason why you wouldn’t succeed.
But…
If you are new to this kind of business then it is not going to be an overnight success.
It’s going to take a lot of time and dedication, just like it would for any business venture you undertook.
Kannaway does appear to have some great products, but that alone is not going to make you a success in this industry, especially with the amount of competition there is.
Had some bad experiences with MLM companies in the past and therefore I sort of having an idea of how difficult they can be.
I should have called time on trying to make a living online and nearly did if it wasn’t for determination and sheer persistence.
Further research showed me that Affiliate Marketing for me was a better solution and the right one that I was looking for. One that anybody could learn.
It was all about finding the right training and after many hours of looking, I came across Wealthy Affiliate. Everything you would ever need to succeed is within this training platform.

Lawsuits And Disputes
Kannaway over the years has faced several lawsuits:
- Pyramid Scheme Allegations:

This lawsuit is still pending. Another similar lawsuit was settled in 2018 without Kannaway admitting any wrongdoing.

This case was settled in 2017, again with no admission of guilt from Kannaway.

In 2022, the Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council (DSSRC) put Kannaway on notice for making unsubstantiated health claims about their products on social media.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requires that MLM companies ensure their distributors’ claims are truthful and substantiated. Kannaway was warned to remove these posts to avoid further compliance inquiries (Truth in Advertising).
- Other Legal Issues:
Kannaway’s parent company, Medical Marijuana, Inc., has been involved in other lawsuits, including a 2015 lawsuit against a Colorado lab for making false claims and a 2014 trademark infringement case filed by CannaVest.
These legal challenges highlight the regulatory scrutiny Kannaway faces, particularly concerning its MLM business model and health claims made by its distributors.
It’s important for potential distributors and customers to be aware of these issues when considering involvement with the company.

Hi Mick
I read through and I am far from convinced this would be a good idea. I am not one of those people who could sell ice to the Inuit even during an arctic heatwave. High priced products, undisclosed company revenues, hmm don’t think so. Thanks for the thorough review but I think I will take your advice and give this a pass.
Cheers
Andy
Hey Andy, I was never a real salesperson either.
Thanks for the comment
For someone who knows nothing about this product, this is a very good place to start with how informative it is! Thank you very much for this insight
Ben, thanks for stopping by, much appreciated
Hi Mike,
Great article! Thanks for such a thorough analysis of Kannaway.
I am generally very wary of MLMs. My neighbor was just talking to me about Kannaway just last week, peddling all the good things about the business. What he failed to tell me, your deep dive in this review, provided insight about additional considerations one should examine before making a commitment to the company.
Wealthy Affiliates looks really promising in terms of price, full training and no up-sells. Definitely worth looking into…
Hey Ceci, it helps that I had a few bad experiences myself through MLMs but that’s not to say you can’t make a good living from them.
Experience is key just like it is with any business and therefore wouldn’t recommend an MLM route for newbies looking to make a living from.
When you come away from an MLM as a newbie you will leave with nothing.
After I wasted several years down the MLM route, I was about to call it a day until I came across Affiliate Marketing which anybody can learnAffiliate Marketing which anybody can learn, it just meant that I had to find the right training and that’s where Wealthy AffiliateWealthy Affiliate came in.
Thank you for commenting.
Hi Mick,
I did a really nice comment for your attention, and lost it, as when I posted it, I did not agree to something or other, in short this time.
I would not buy this product from online, I would have to this or get this from a GP.
Your layout was great, no problem there, and the content was easy to follow, well done loved it overall.
Joe 90
I wouldn’t buy these products either Joe, because you don’t really know whether what it says on the label is correct or not.
A recent random test in the UK was done on 100 products and found that 40% either didn’t comply with what the label indicated or there wasn’t any CBD Oil at all. That was coming from some reputable businesses as well.
Not sure where you would stand to get a prescription from the doctors.
Thank you for your support
It is quite strange how CBD oil has a wide range of benefits while smoking “weed” has the exact opposite effect, no matter what “potheads” claim.
I can speak from first-hand experience of the detrimental effect cannabis smoking has on a person’s mental and physical condition.
I have friends and family with severe medical issues from smoking weed.
That’s why I am a little apprehensive about all of the claims of CBD oil.
However, given that so many people and even doctors have been seen on TV talking about its positive attributes, especially in treatments for epilepsy, I am starting to change my mind; not least because I am epileptic.
I do, however, as with any drug that is touted and then sold at a high price, I think that more research should be done, especially on the long term effects of the product.
This is the exact reason that I think using an affiliate or MLM strategy to promote such a product really isn’t for me.
Not that I have anything against AM or MLM, just that when it comes to such a rapidly growing product, there are bound to be many unscrupulous marketers out there.
Kannaway, on the other hand, seems to be above board and USDA approved, which is great, but I still wouldn’t be comfortable selling such a product anyway.
That being said, Mick, this is a great article with accurate information. I will bookmark for further use.
Cheers,
Michael.
Some great points there Michael. Totally agree that when a product so popular comes on to the market you are always going to find unscrupulous businesses cropping up to get a piece of the action.
That will never change and makes it so much more difficult to manage the products coming onto the market.
CBD Oil comes from both the Marijuana and Hemp plant with Hemp not producing the high, with only traces of THC. I know a few people who manage to get hold of the Marijuana CBD oil products because they are looking for the high, which is not what businesses like Kannaway are about.
Thank you for the great comment.
MLM business can be recommended for newbies if what they have in mind for joining is to learn the art of marketing. Experts in investment recommend marketing skills and a MLM company as one area to get them. Otherwise, if one is looking for easy money, it can be a big downfall, or a free fall financially.
Thank you for sharing
Absolutely Claude but training as I found out myself, through MLMs were none-existant.
The promise is there as a hook to get you to join but very seldom do you get any.
Training through weekly video streams is not my way of learning.
Of course, I can only comment through my own experiences.
Thanks for commenting
Hi Mick,
Thanks for an in-depth review. One of the biggest problems with new industries like CBD is the influx of scams that come along with it.
The popularity of CBD products has skyrocketed to become one of the most lucrative health supplements the world has ever seen. However, dozens of scam artists and entrepreneurs with poor integrity have stepped into the market with trash products and sketchy payment plans. This one does not that bad that said it looks pricey
I couldn’t agree more Satz. The CBD oil industry is in its infancy days, so expect it to really take off in the next couple of years.
Unfortunately, it will always be the same when something new hits the market, but all it takes is some thorough research and not to be taken in with all the promises and BS.
Thanks for the comment, it’s much appreciated.
Hi Mick, your article caught my eye about Kannaway. I have recently started learning more about CBD and am accually supposed to attend a webinar with Kannaway, as I was looking for an affiliate network in CBD.
I will say your article is quite accurate on many points about CBD, however, my opinion you did not quite accurately give some important information about CBD.
For instance, did you know the body actually produces cannabinoids in your body naturally? this is a great point to bring up when you talked about the chemical construct of CBD and THC.
There is actually an entire system in our bodies, called the Endocannabinoid system. Just an fyi. OK enough of my defending CBD…LOL.
I did some research on Kannaway and I would have to agree with you on the assessment of the company. CBD is going to be expensive anyhow, so there is no need to go much higher than the competition. I do not like that.
MLM? yea I do not know about that either, not a fan of MLM.
From someone who is getting a lot of education and doing the research in CBD, as well as, my own experiences. There many good companies and products out there being made by people that are truly trying to help others as CBD had helped them.
There are bad products as well, so you have to know what you are looking for. There are things, as a consumer, can ask to look at. 3rd- party test, certificate of analysis (COA), and a few others. Not many are aware of what to look for or just lacking the correct information, besides what hype and skepticism contribute.
This will be my mission at WA, to help spread the correct information to people about CBD.
Anyhow, I thought you brought a fair and mostly accurate argument about Kannaway. Personally I will not join this network as an affiliate, but I will reaching out to them in other ways, because I do believe they are making good products with good common goals in the CBD industry and could be a good contact or even asset in the future.
Nice Article Mick. If you ever have questions about CBD feel free to ask. I am actually putting a coaching service together for my website soon.
Thank you,
Troy
Well Troy, thanks for that extensive review, and I had heard about the Endocannabinoid system, but a lot of research still needs to be done in that area.
Maybe someone will come up with a vitamin supplement that activates this system in a way that there will be no need for CBD Oil.
Since this market exploded and will only get stronger, many products just aren’t what they say they are, so be careful if this is something you want to get into.
Unfortunately, I can only put so much into a review otherwise it will get out of hand.
CBD Oil for many is the last resort and I can see why as extreme pain can have all sorts of effect on the body, especially the mind.
In its simplistic form, pain is just bad energy, and replacing this bad energy with good energy is all it takes. That’s what I do with the healing modality “Reiki”.
If you are looking at reputable businesses in this market which aren’t MLM, then I would suggest taking a look at CIBDOL. They are a Swiss company and not MLM, but they do have an affiliate program, which is based on volume of sales and not recruiting.
Thanks for your comment
First I would like to thank you for doing an awesome research on this company and sharing it with the rest of us to help bring us up to speed.
I have been around pot my entire life and have seen a lot of good yet a lot of not so good results. Like everything in life we need to use products sparely or we risk falling prey to another problem. There is not doubt in my mind that there is a hugh market for all products from those plants. The sad thing is a lot of the products like you said will become inflated due to the potential of making money. These marketers are the wolves and will lie to your face to make a sale.
They know the only way to find out if it works is to give it a try and by the time you spent your time money to make it work is too late. They already got you and there is nothing you can do about it.
I have had my share of MLM’s and I have lost a lot of money due to lies in the market. I would not trust
Kannaway MLM company any more then the vacuum or car salesman. Like all those MLM companies, the ones making the money are those on the top sucking the money out of those trying to get a head in life. Now they will play on those with a medical condition.
My biggest question is why sell it through MLM if its such a good product? Because they are after the money not to help people.
The payout seems to be quit good actually, perhaps this one is different and not just the top get all the money. The market is hugh so perhaps this is the best time to get in on the ground floor. There is no doubt the company will do well, just not so sure about the business side of things or even the products for the matter.
Rick, there is money to be made but always the top 1-3% and that’s me been conservative about it. For anybody new coming onto the internet to earn some money or maybe a change of career this is not a good place to start.
I always recommend Affiliate Marketing, because when taught in the correct manner then the worlds your oyster.
Any business is going to take time and sheer hard work. That goes without saying and rewarding at the end of the day. Especially when you have helped somebody on the way and guided them on the right path.
Thanks for your comment, much appreciated.
Hey Mick,
Michael here. I found your review of Kannaway tough but fair. I have a neighbor that I really like, but he’s been dogging me to join Amway for over a year.
MLM’s are great for people that have huge circles of friends, and are willing to be on the go 24/7. They are commission based, so you only get to ‘eat what you kill’, so to speak.
Obviously, this is not the life for everyone.
After reading your review, I think I have a lot more interest in this Affiliate Marketing idea. I am not anti-social by any stretch, but I also don’t want to be pestering all my friends and family just to make a sale.
Thanks for this very revealing article, Mick. Really appreciate all the hard work that must have gone into it.
Michael
Michael, so glad you stopped by. I once nearly joined Amway, a few years ago now.
There is money to be made in Network Marketing but you have to know what you are doing, but for newbies can be very tough. It helps though if your sponsor is prepared to guide you through the process which wasn’t the case when I tried a couple.
If you have a big list then yeah for sure you might make money, but you might end up losing that list if they didn’t make any money.
There’s a tendency when joining an MLM that you may make some money early on but that usually diminishes pretty quickly.
All you have to do is look at the amount who join 12 months later 50-65% will have left. In any case, it is always the top 1-3% who actually earn anything.
Thanks for the comment and your support.
Hi Mick,
Such a great article. Very thorough and in depth. I appreciate your research. So many new CBD companies and MLM’s on the market. As much as I believe in the products I don’t know that with Kannaway I believe their background story.
I have been part of a couple of MLM’s and to me those at the top get the cream and you need to have many many customers to make it work. I am actually a part of Wealthy Affiliate like you and find blogging and affiliate marketing definitely more rewarding and less stressful haha!
Bookmarked your website and look forward to more great posts,
Cheers,
Kev
Hey Kevin, thanks for stopping by and glad you liked the review.
It does appear to be the norm where we all think these MLMs, whether CBD or any other product for that matter is the quick answer to all our dreams, and it doesn’t take very long to realize that we have made a big mistake. 2 in my case!
I’m not saying you can’t make money with an MLM because you can, but the tactics are pretty harsh and for a beginner coming into the “make money online” niche it all ends up crashing down before you. After this experience, many never pursue their goals and end up moving on!
It is a known fact, and I can’t understand why people can’t see this, but only 1-2% actually make any real money. It’s there for in black and white for anyone to see. Maybe they just choose to ignore that very fact.
In this present climate, we can see CBD Oil really taking off, and to a point, there are far too many startup businesses (MLM mostly) coming on stream to try and take advantage of this market, and what we are seeing here is.
It was already extremely challenging to make a half-decent income with but now even more difficult because there are so many of them about.
Thank you for your comments and support.
